March 2004
Greetings! Again I was gone for a long time - I laid in a hospital again... You can hardly really understand what I mean while speaking about Russian hospital, he-he...
Yes, now we have insurance medicine, however, it is still very far from that showed us in the American serial "Emergency". The insurance policy is necessary for the medical personal only to determine your social level and solvency of your enterprise (if you are insured by your employer). In practice it looks so: in a usual 7-person chamber patients of different age with similar diagnoses get. The patient having the policy from municipality, will lie in this chamber for 21 day IRRESPECTIVE OF RESULT of the TREATMENT!!! Why? Just because the municipal budget pays only three weeks of your treatment per one year. After that term doctors "being treated" with you won't receive any money since their salary completely consists of similar deductions. Another case if you got the policy given by the large Russian petroleum company: you'll be exhausted by different procedures, care and attention.. .. You'll be simply recommended "to stay in the hospital one more week or two"!...
Unfortunately, I got the worst of all possible kinds of medical policies, and if not my congenital sociability and arrangement of my doctors and medical sisters to me, who would allow me to enjoy medical treatment twice a year!
This pleasure is doubtful and... non-standard, isn't it? In general the essence of treatment consists of the following: you lay in your room and talk with your fellow sufferers about everything (usually about politics, weather, work, illnesses, women and army histories). Once a day in the room there comes the attending physician (it is usually a woman approx. 40-45 years old, angry and constantly hastening somewhere). For each patient she does the ceremony of measurement of pressure and listening to your heart with a stethoscope. Then she can ask about state of health and depending on the answer she can prescribe you some medicine or cancel something from appointed earlier. Each patient in a room has 5 minutes for each person, the doctor escapes and you will not see her for the whole day anymore. With the name of a medicine written on a paper you go to the drugstores located on a ground floor of hospital (sometimes we even argued about the size of income which in our opinion, is received by doctors from those drugstores for any shit written down!). You buy the medicine and give it to the medical sister - only she has the right to make injections and to put droppers! All injections made by somebody else ARE NOT SET OFF!!! If you go home on days off (and practically all "walking" patients go home) even if your mother a Honorable Medical Worker - nothing changes: 2-3-4 injections or droppers per day should be made in the hospital and strictly by the hospital medical sister.
For a long time I could not understand the reason of so rigid care of patients, till I have guessed: the sister receives money for each injection, a dropper or any other procedure! All injections are fixed in a special magazine, and depending on results of the month each sister got a small increase to the salary (by the way, they got usually from 600 up to 1200 rubbles per one month).
If you miss a pair of procedures - you will expel from hospital for infringement of a regime and default of medical instructions.
It is interesting to know that all injections are made by your own syringes / droppers, and even spirit you have to buy yourself ! (sometimes funny things happen: the sister came in chamber to make injections and all patients ran up the hospital to ask a little spirit!...)
In general, a treatment in any modern Russian hospital is a very interesting action but expensive. The doctor's salary, by the way, is approximately twice more than medical sister's have, however in the eyes of everyone reproach is read: "Well and when you will give me the money?". Having given your doctor the money in exchange you receive the human attitude (i.e. during survey she will smile and speak with you in a kind voice and with sympathizing intonation) and a small guarantee of that you won't get somebody's medicine by mistake.
If you have money, it is possible to stay in a separate - paid room: about 10 square meters, where there are a bed, a sofa for visitors, a table, a chair and a refrigerator!!! All this luxury to you will cost 400 rubbles a day. And, for this money you can have any quantity of visitors at any time and absolutely don't care about the observance of a regime.
To one old fat gypsy, living in separate chamber, came a large part of his camp since the early morning . Men were locked in his "number", children played in the corridor and women visited other chambers and tried to take hold of our money fraudulently.
One guy asserted, that for an additional payment it is possible to call the on duty sister or the doctor in a similar number for a night... To tell you the truth, it seems doubtful to me.
The food in the hospital, directly we shall tell, is not too burdensome for a stomach. For breakfast - it is usually a cooked wheat porridge on water (without salt and sugar - as the hospital barmaid has explained we have a special diet) and bread, for dinner - you got soup with the rests of the porridge not eaten in the morning and bread, for supper - there is some bread and porridge which we shall meet again in the morning of the next day. As you can see, there is no problems with bread. It is possible to buy something in addition in one of numerous shops on a ground floor or TO ORDER a PAID MEAL. That is for 80 rubbles per day you receive quite decent menu - with the first, the second and the third dishes... The doctors and medical sisters strongly recommend to each patient to order paid meal and in default practically cease to pay attention to this person. Most likely they also have some financial interest from our orders.
The majority of patients eat the food which are brought by their relatives every day. Certainly, all these convolutions with bacon, sausage, banks with salty cabbage and a stewed potato and also pots with cutlets and other food are stored directly in their rooms - under the beds be. Though near each bed there is a small bedside-table, but it is allowed to hold only medicines, a glass, a boiler, a toilet paper and shaving accessories in it. Periodically the head medical sister makes inspection strikes on our rooms and checks the "order" in it, and she loudly shout demanding to remove this or that forbidden subject from a bedside-table...
Generally, in a corridor near a sisterly post there is one special refrigerator for storage of products of all the patients, but products are stored in it for not very long time - they are steal immediately.
In the room it is authorized to have the TV. Due to this, since early morning and till latest night I could watch uncountable comic programs, serials about gangsters and educational films - everything, that the owner of the TV set watched.
Fortunately, one and a half month have flown by imperceptibly. Here is an extract, and the attending physician with compassionate eyes: "Will you, the swine, really will leave so simply?!!!". Medical sisters as children are pleased for a presented chocolate. To my neighbors on the room I leave all the rests syringes and tea. Home.

It's me!!!november 2003

Hello everybody!
I apologize for my long absence - I was ill!!!
The result of bi-monthly abiding in a hospital is an official inhibitory action to work and getting the status of an invalid for me (with all values, implied from it: the monthly pension in 400$ (certainly it is very little, we'll try to overcome it and begin to save money...), free treatment and medicines, small automobile and care of the social workers. Plus: 50 % the discount on all products and essential commodities. You'd better to live so!!!). Using a moment I want to express my delight by nobleness and humanity of the Russian state (you'd better to live here!!!).
After being saturated by the nutrition and careful drift I want to think about something high...
By the way, recently it is uncontrollably wanted (even for some minutes) to threaten national security of the USA. It is just to give pleasure to my friends (for some reason the greater number of my friends and familiar are sincerely pleased, when the USA is bad. May be they envy any fucking George who has the possibilities to eat hamburgers and to bomb any country he wishes, to vote for the fucking Terminators (WHO IS A TERMINATOR?????!!!!!) to be the governors, for Bush (or Klinton at the worst) to be the president... There are things to envy!!!).
Well I have to finish - it's time of the second lunch (- so the condition is!!!)...

summer2003It's me too!

HI!
Here is Pavel Baleevsky. I am the chief editor (and the founder) of the Real Art magazine. Real Art appeared in 1998 and was published in Russian all the time. The distinctive features of the material published in RA were unusual opinion on common things, brave judgment, wide circle of discussing topics plus uncontrollable wish to quarrel with the whole world (judging by the experience, we were a success in this!).
In the end of the year 2001 we decided to release the English version of our magazine, but the events, which have followed behind it, removed our plans for a long time.
The reason is in the following things: the xero-copied edition of the magazine devoted to non-commercial music and to the propagation of political ideas (which are opposite to the established political system) gives very little income (to tell you the truth, it gives NO income at all!!! It is absolutely unprofitable occupation only for the altruists). That is why I had to find a job. In autumn 2001 I started to work on the Volgograd Tractor Factory as a foreman in the mix material Department. One day you work for 12 hours from 7.30 pm till 7.30 am, the next day from 7.30am till 7.30 pm, the next two days you have days off. It was an ideal working schedule - a lot of free time! The job wasn't very hard. I had time to drink tea, to read and to write something... But because of the specific attitude of the factory administration towards the worker's wages (may be you have heard about stoppage of the wages in Russia? He-he, I can tell you so much about that...) so, the workers began to leave their job. And in the end of 2001 - 2002 I often had to work hard and to forget about reading and drinking tea. In the end of winter - the beginning of spring I noticed some problems with health thanks to the job. I worked further not paying attention to my health till I felt myself really awful. I had to go to the doctor. The doctor found my backbone disease. He prescribed me to go to his familiar doctors which turned to be the swindlers. For three weeks they gave me analgetic medicine (I didn't know about that) and were happy together with me cause I felt better. They said that I should pay so much money (my wages for three months!!!). Due to my vigilance I understood their intentions. That is why I said FUCK OFF to their treatment on the very new "American" technology. For certain they spend my money for some bullshit!
After that there were many persons wanted to treat my back (selfishly of course), but as a result...
As a result, for the whole year I hardly move, know everything about analgetics, free for the household responsibilities and read much.
OK, let's talk about Real Art again...
During the hole year I received different materials from bands, labels and various organizations. I don't know what you think about me now, but anyway I feel very ashamed for what has happened. They send me stuff with the hope to get "Russian Dada mag. RA" with the review on these stuff. But I answered rarely. So you can call me the villain.
But I have two reasons that may make you not to think badly about me and they may help me to take away the shame. 1) I wrote the reviews on all the stuff - everyday I hoped that I'll feel better and I'd start making new issue of Real Art. 2) I hope you understand me - only love and care of my wife and your music gave me the power not to perish in the cruelest depression that attacked me in the last year. Please, believe me - there is no fervor or exaggeration in my words.
Now I have no force, no opportunities, no money to makeeppaper" version of Real Art. In january I started to learn Dreamweaver 4, as a result you can see this web-site. I am learning it now so it is only the 100-th part of what I want to do!
All the material that was going to be in Real Art "paper" version you can find on this site.
Please, be indulgent.
Sincerely yours,
Pavel
